Riverside Methodist Hospital's Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program has been accredited by the
Ohio State Medical Association since 1965 and is currently operating under full 6-year accreditation with
exemplary compliance, up for review in 2011.  Riverside’s CME Program now offers nearly 500 hours of
Category 1 CME credit annually!

We are committed to offering quality CME for our medical staff and physicians throughout the state of Ohio.
Our
CME Committee is comprised of physicians from many departments and sections of the medical staff
as well as members of the medical staff leadership and administration. We are dedicated to providing
practical information which can be applied to the current and future practice of medicine, while helping the
hospital to achieve its performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Effective November 2008, all accredited providers
of CME were required to begin complying with
the
new accreditation criteria of the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education
(ACCME).  These criteria expand on the original
essentials and elements by requiring detail such
as gap analysis, and measurement of changes
in physician competence, performance and/or
patient outcomes.  (See page 4 of the above link
for a full synopsis of the requirements.)

As the CME professionals within the OhioHealth
system were challenged with how to meet these
new rigorous requirements, we began to network
and benchmark amongst ourselves, eventually
meeting fairly regularly.  We created similar
Mission Statements, planning documents, and discovered that we were offering a lot of similar activities.
As a result, we are now working toward CME accreditation as OhioHealth (versus the four separately
accredited hospitals of Grant, Riverside, Marion and Grady).  Our goal is to become accredited as a
system on July 1, 2010.

Stay tuned for progress reports in the months to come!
